After moving to Sioux Falls from Chicago 12 years ago, I’m still getting used to all of the new laws and ordinances for the city and South Dakota. After browsing through some of the ordinances, I was a little shocked by some of them. I think I might be guilty of violating a few of these. Here are some of the ones that stuck out as local ordinances you may not know about.
Sioux Falls is home to a lot of campers and people who like to fish. But the city ordinance forbid campers or boats to be parked on the street or on a driveway in front of your home for more than 48 hours. And that’s only allowed if you are cleaning them. If you look at local social networking accounts, you may often see residents of Sioux Falls asking “Did anybody else hear that loud boom?” on a regular basis. Police sometimes get called for these noises because people often think it was a bomb. However, chances are the loud boom was caused by Tannerite.
The year was 2010. I had just moved into a new place in the middle of Sioux Falls. It was a new start after recently losing my father to Cancer. I hadn’t gotten to know many of my neighbors just yet. I felt depressed with it being the holiday season and I didn’t really feel like talking to others too much. I had also let some small household chores fall by the wayside.
