The Fall season brings the time of year for apple and pumpkin picking. With public pools closed and Summer camp done, what better way is there to spend a weekend day with family than at an apple orchard?
Country Apple Orchard is located on Minnesota Avenue, just outside the Southeastern part of Sioux Falls in Harrisburg, SD. The orchard offers visitors a great retreat away from the noises and bustle of the city. Park in the grass then wander freely among the apple trees. Let the kids run off some energy in the pumpkin patch.
The orchard opens to the public usually at the end of August and closes late October. Every weekend during this time, they have pony rides, train rides, a petting zoo, and hay bail runs available for the kids. They also have several festival weekends where they add inflatables and live music.
Venture out in the field on a tractor ride for apple picking, or just for fun. Grab a wagon and hoist your child up on your shoulders and grab some of those juicy, unpicked apples near the top of the trees. Seven acres of pumpkins are also available for the choosing.
On warmer days, be sure to bring mosquito repellent as they were quite a problem on our visit. Fortunately, the nearby stand had some available for our family.
Inside their store, you can pick from hundreds of apple and pumpkin related items like apple cider, apple pie. They also offer fresh ice cream and coffee.
Before leaving, venture back outside where there are often food truck vendors offering cotton candy, popcorn and other nice treats.
Whether you’re just looking for a good time to spend with family or the freshest apples in the area, Country Apple Orchard is a nice way to spend a Fall Saturday afternoon.
